Fourthought is a daily puzzle game on the web at fourthought.app. You can play without an account. This page explains what is collected when you create one, and how the optional hint videos work.

Playing without an account

Your results, streaks and settings are stored only on your device. When you finish a puzzle, the page also sends one anonymous count (the date, the game, whether it was solved, and a random number your browser made up so each device counts once). That's how we show lines like "64% of players solved it". It isn't linked to you or your account.

If you create an account

An account saves your progress so it isn't lost and so you can play on more than one device. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a code sent to your email. We store:

• your email address (with Sign in with Apple, this may be a private relay address from Apple), and your name if Apple or Google shares it;
• an identifier from Apple or Google that tells us it's you, and, for Sign in with Apple, a token we use only to cancel the sign-in if you delete your account;
• your game progress: results, streaks, in-progress puzzles and which tips you've seen.

We use this only to run your account. Sign-in codes are emailed by our email provider, Resend, and expire after 10 minutes. Accounts are stored with Cloudflare, which hosts fourthought.app. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.

Ads

The only ads on Fourthought are optional short videos you can choose to watch to unlock a puzzle's hint. You never have to watch one to play, and if no video is available the hint is free. Ads are never shown during a puzzle.

The videos are provided by Google (AdSense). To show and measure them, Google may use cookies and collect your IP address, approximate location, browser details and how you interact with ads. If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you'll be asked for your consent first. You can manage personalized ads at adssettings.google.com. Google's use of this data is covered by Google's privacy policy. We never share your account details with advertisers.

The page's fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when it sends them.

Deleting your data

• Your account: go to Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and the progress saved to it, signs you out on every device, and cancels Sign in with Apple. It happens immediately.
• Progress on a device: Settings → Reset progress, or clear this site's data in your browser.

Children

Fourthought is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
